Rev. Fr. Gregory (Charles) Bruner, a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, attended the University of Indianapolis where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Religion in 2004. Raised Roman Catholic, he was introduced to the Orthodox Church in college and began attending Ss. Constantine and Elena Orthodox Church (Romanian Episcopate). After a period as a catechumen, he was received into the Orthodox Church on Lazarus Saturday, 2003.
Having always felt a calling to serve the Church, he enrolled in seminary in 2004 and completed his theological studies at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood, NY where he received a Master of Divinity Degree in 2007. He was ordained a deacon on Forgiveness Sunday in 2006 and served at St. Vladimir’s Seminary while completing his studies.
On the Feast of Holy Ascension in 2008 he was ordained a priest by Archbishop Job, of blessed memory, at Holy Ascension Orthodox Church in Albion, Michigan, where he was subsequently assigned to serve as second priest. In December 2008, he was placed on loan to serve St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Appleton, Wisconsin. In September 2010, he was recalled to the OCA to serve at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Joliet, Illinois where he served until his reassignment to Archangel Michael Orthodox Church in Burbank, Illinois in 2011. He was assigned to St. George Orthodox Cathedral in Rossford, Ohio in August 2018.
In addition to his duties as parish priest of St. George Orthodox Cathedral, Fr. Gregory serves in the Indiana Air National Guard as a chaplain at the 122nd Fighter Wing in Fort Wayne, IN.
Matushka Ksenia was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and grew up in Springfield, Vermont in an Orthodox household. After graduating with a B.A. in Anthropology and History from Brandeis University, she enrolled in St. Vladimir’s Seminary where she earned a M.A. in Religious Education. While in seminary, Ksenia studied youth ministry and spent a summer interning with the Orthodox Church in America Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries. It was also in seminary where she and Fr. Gregory met before they married in 2005. Matushka Ksenia earned an Associates Degree in Nursing in 2014, Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2015, and a Master of Science in Nursing in 2018. She currently works as Nurse Practitioner.
Fr. Gregory, Matushka Ksenia, and their three children Matthias, Thaddeus, and Ileana are grateful to God for the parishioners that make St. George Cathedral their spiritual family.
